Abstract

Patents are a valuable knowledge source for recent technology information for many user groups. Over 2 million new patents are registered worldwide with high growth rates especially in Asia nowadays. The retrieval of relevant information from patents is of crucial importance for investments of enterprises. Mining from patent can exhibit important technological trends. However, the nature pf patents as a mixture of legal and technical demands make them difficult to retrieval and to analyze. Some challenges will be revisited and some recent approaches are presented.
